2. What is you job on the expedition?
Apart from doing a lot of rowing, preparation is key. I am mainly responsible for liaising with our chosen charity and arranging sponsorship for the event. In addition, I will also be planning the route that we take across the Ocean. "Which way to Antigua, please?"
3. Do you have any rowing experience?
I am a member of 'The Globe Rowing Club' in Greenwich. We row on the Thames, which can be quite choppy, but rowing on the Ocean will be completely different.
4. What other challenges have you done?
Charity runs, including marathons in Paris and London. The Tough Guy Challenge.
5. What are you most looking forward to?
The first thing is the thought of being out on the ocean, miles from anywhere and experiencing what I can only assume will be a once in a lifetime event. The second is completing and winning the race and getting my hands on an enourmous steak in Antigua.
6. What are you worried about the most?
Sea sickness - I hate being seasick!
7. What do your family and friends think?
Most reacted with surprise, and thought it was slightly mad. The best reaction, was from my mother. After telling her what we were doing she said with delight: 'Jimmy, that's living!'
8. How did you find out about the challenge?
Adam sent me an email between Christmas and New Year 2006, telling me about the event and asking if I might be interested. I wasn't particularly keen, but was interested to hear more. After speaking to Adam (over a couple of pints) I could see he was entirely serious and it sounded like a very exciting proposition, but still a bad idea. I went away and thought carefully. By the following week I found myself completely convinced that I absolutely had to take part. I think I was lured by the idea of the once in a lifetime adventure.
9.Who is your role model?
Captain Ahab
10. Favourite Quote?
'It ain't about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward, that's how winning is done' ROCKY BALBOA
